Hello there,
------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to CHRISSYTOPIA TIMES!!

In 1990 Jessica Tandy, 81, had become the oldest actress to win an Academy Award for her role in the film Driving Miss Daisy. Though I was just becoming a teenager at that time, for some reason her winning had made such an impact on my life. I like to bring up, The Jessica Tandy Principle, to explain the idea of how much time it can sometimes take to have recognition in the entertainment industry. Though she had a prominent theatre profession and had dabbled in the movie world, the general public...well me...had no idea of her talents until she had won that award. The principle is one I use to keep a sense of hope whenever I'm questioning career choices. The funny thing is, at that time it amazed me how old she was when she won her award... but doing a little research on her career while typing today, I find out that she won a Tony in her 40's....and well ...the principle still works for me! Which leads me to this fabulous fall and the lovely opportunities it has
brought.
If you haven't heard already, I'm performing two one hour performances at Willis Show Bar. And though you've seen me perform before, you haven't seen me with a full band, separated onto 2 stages, with guest performances, original songs, a DJ, a co- sponsor, and all the rest of that fun and glamour all rolled up into one show. GET YOUR RESERVATIONS!! (LINK (https://resy.com/cities/det/willis-show-bar) ) I am geeked!!! And the hits keep coming... I recently performed at The Whitney (Detroit's Most Iconic Mansion), I'm regularly booking The London Chop House, and I'm heading into the studio to record my first solo EP!!! More info next edition. Though I'v been, and continue to be Detroit's Backup Vocalist, I'm really enjoying the process becoming the solo artist I have been inching my way towards. And though I'm older, I'm certainly more confident, business saavy, and motivated than I ever was or could hope be 20 years ago. The JT principle keeps me goin...
Tell me how you're doin, it's been a while.

Movin on up,

** Chrissy Morgan

If you know Chrissy Morgan, you know that I love my shelter pets, I drive a Prius V, and every radio station preset in my car is either Canadian, college, or public radio. Yes I am one of those tree hugging public radio nerds with the T-shirt to prove it. My go-to, even during pledge week, has to be WDET 101.9FM. Between the midday, Culture Shift, and the weekend, Essential Music, and all the rest, I'm hooked. I really do find new music during their programming more than other stations, and what's better is a lot of that music is locally made. I highly suggest that you donate to this gem of a radio station. AND... if I haven't convinced you... consider A. During Noel Night 3 years ago, the station was giving away CD's not in rotation to those who stopped by the station... my arms were full. B. Yes it's fun to have WDET merch, but what's more fun is getting a FREE Mudgie's gift card cuz I won a contest during their last pledge drive. C. It was during Culture Shift that I found
out about $5 tickets to see Jack White at Little Ceasar's Arena. Simply said, you put in, you get back!!!

I'm not sure if you're on Spotify, but I've been using it for some time now. It's pretty helpful while giving vocal lessons or for learning new songs. My fav use has to be CHRISSY MORGAN RADIO. 100% chance this playlist will be playing on any roadtrip. I am by no means a DJ, but if you're curious as to what music I have been listening to lately or are influenced by, you can follow my playlist. WARNING, my tastes are all over the place, but I'm positive that you'll find something new that you haven't heard before.

Hello there,
------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the new CHRISSYTOPIA TIMES!!

It is absolutely unbelievable that last year at this time I was with my brother watching the solar eclipse in Tennessee trying to live a normal life in the midst of receiving weekly chemotherapy. Last summer I was getting daily shots, wearing scarves to cover my bald head, planning life around my next doctors appointments, feeling weak and ultimately depressed at the whole situation... not surprisingly. And this past weekend, literally one year later, I had performed 4 back-to-back shows, including a performance as a guest vocalist with The Algebra Mothers (https://thirdmanstore.com/a-moms-algebra-mothers-black-vinyl) at Third Man Records in Detroit, Mi!!! Unbelievable.
It's not like I didn't have the energy before, so it's not totally surprising.. heck I used to work back-to- back doubles while waiting tables...and I've always been a proponent of living life to the fullest.. you gotta know that by now... but there is a difference between then and now..I think one of those differences include how I see my life BC and AC ( C= Cancer). Lately all of my choices have been a result of consistent planning and research (aka homework), timing, and giving myself to the universe. I'm simply doing my part to maintain focus and when something isn't working, I've learned to release my grip and allow for what happens to happen, and you know what.... it's working. I see the light!! I bet you can too. What is something you need in life? Fresh air, family time, career change? You'll get it if ya want it. Try it yourself. Assign yourself some homework.
So.... part of putting that homework into good use include new professional pics (coming soon), updated website info, and the switch, booking more gigs and the switch from "The Chrissy Morgan Newsletter" to "Chrissytopia Times"!
Tell me how you're doin, it's been a while.

Movin on up,

This past weekend I had the honor to perform for the children represented through Melissa Park's foundation, Art and Soul. Her events are open house art exhibits in which the main topic of discussion is helping children find foster homes. My heart was melted many times throughout the event and I plan on helping her raise awareness at future gatherings. Click the link to learn more about the next scheduled event. It may be too difficult to add another member to your family, but you can help by adding to the discussion. Let's speak for those who feel they don't have a voice.

Aretha Franklin, THE VOICE of our time has passed on to finer pastures We are so lucky to have had such a vocal genius exist within our times. Of course, we have all tried to sing like she does, even in jest (R-E-S-P-E-C-T), but noone can quite recreate the sounds that rang through those vocal cords. That's what makes her an original. That voice could emote joy as well as pain to the utmost degrees and bring you right alongside. That's more then technique and skill, that's passion! Radio DJ, Ann Delisi, from public radio's 101.9 FM has played the "Live From Fillmore West" album multiple times and I recently found the live concert footage from that event on the ol YouTubes. It's worth watching just to see and hear Aretha in her prime, but that band?!?!... and then Ray Charles joins in at the end!?!? OOOOOOWEEE!!!! I feel the spirit!

Hello there,

Welcome to Issue No. 13!!! There havve been thirteen lucky issues since I have joined MailChimp for my newsletter...and I love using it. I distinctly remember creating a newsletter when I was younger using an actual typewriter, literally cutting and pasting images, and even creating my own comics. At some point I moved onto emails and spamming whomever gave me their business card. I then moved on and had a couple posts on the ol Myspace back in the day. And now here we are with a baker's dozen and I still have things to share with ya!!!
I enjoy letting the world, or whoever is reading know what I'm up to. Mostly that reader is me, Editor-in-Chief , but that's ok. You see, I've always thought of my newsletters as sort of a commitment to myself. I put it out there, and so there's no turning back now. It's also helped to remind me of where I'v been and what has inspired me along the way and soooo...
I've decided to post as many ol newsletters I find from my past onto my website. (www.ChrissyMorgan.com) I just know I'll get a kick out of reminiscing, and I hope you will too. Especially those who have recently joined the Chrissy Morgan wagon. Be patient with me, as this month is full of fun shows. Maybe I'll see ya at one?

Please tell me how you are. It's been a while. Find your passion and find ways do it everyday!!!

** Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------
"DETROIT HUSTLES HARDER" Have ya heard of that phrase? Of course ya have... and what does that mean?? It means that no one is gonna hand it to you in Detroit. You gotta work for it...hustle if ya must, but definitely work . And God bless the child who's got his own, right? No one-hit wonders here, we build careers. No big wigs asking you to sign the line and we'll hand the check over to you. Nooo, you gotta put the effort in to get your name known out here, and even then, it don't mean a thing if you don't first gain the respect form your community.
Now when I first decided to hustle my way into getting more vocal opportunities, it came quicker than I thought. I went to an open mic night at Cadieux Cafe, sang a song with the band, sat back down, and was approached by Kat Orlando. She didn't exactly ask me to sign the line, but she did offer me my first opportunity to sing backup vocals.
Working with Kat had taught me so much! First off, she works with primo musicians. They do their homework, they arrive on time, and they perform when the time arrives! But the real education would happen at practices. I would here these musicians chatting about old venues, past gigs, club managers, all of it... and though I wasn't there, it sure felt like I was. And just hearing these musicians reminisce was enough inspiration to keep me going on my path. But more importantly Kat taught me how to work. How to make it as a consistent professional musician. How to sell your art. From starting your own podcast, to making your own flyers, to showing up at the venue on karaoke night to try to sell tickets to her CD release party... I'v been following her career ever since.

Pre-order Tickets to see Kat Orlando perform live!: click here (https://www.google.com/url?q=https://katorlando.wixsite.com/komusic/events/kat-cd-release-party-one-funomenally-funky-night&sa=D&source=hangouts&ust=1524078760455000&usg=AFQjCNFx51Tub7PU8S8YOFvNOcwWjrrgQQ)

Which leads me to my hustle..... power is out, basement is flooding, and I'm at my local watering hole typin up my newsletter using their internet ... promoting gigs ...hustlin'.. Askin you to come to see The Chrissy Morgan Trio at Southfield library this Wednesday to promote some of my original tunes.

And that Detroit Hustle continues...

I don't want to say my illness has encouraged me to work harder throughout, but it did encourage me to just keep going.... It's those pauses, those set backs that can really throw you off your path of passion, but when you take the fear out of what could happen and instead just make it happen, things DO change.. for the better!!
And so onto my final hustle... at least for this newsletter.....I'm asking for your vote for the Detroit Music Awards ( if you're eligible to vote).

** Outstanding Blues Vocalist
** Outstanding Urban Vocalist
** Outstanding Family Music?
** Outstanding Modern Jazz Group (Chrissy & Susie)
** Outstanding Rock Recording (Scott Morgan)

Of course I'm extremely honored to make it to the final round of the Detroit Music Awards, but mostly I get to hang with, my peers, my idols, and my musical hustlers at the pre-party!! WOOT WOOT!!!!

It's been a while, tell me how you've been. I hope that you are finding your path to passion as we speak!

** Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------
There are some weekends where my husband Chris and I wonder what the hell happened to our house in such a short amount of time. In this household we call it the "
CHRISSY HURRICANE".

Between moving gear and changing outfits (fig. vs. lit.), it's a wonder how I keep it all together. Some may imply that "you're always doing so much", and yet despite the upcoming hurricane expected after this fun-filled weekend, I'm looking forward to it. You see, gulp, I joined another project...even after I told myself, before the new year of 2017, that I was to not take on anything else so that I could focus on what I had.

What do I have?
The Chrissy Morgan Trio - jazz standards and timeless classics
Bricktown Station - original rockfunksouldivalternative jam band
Bruce & Chrissy - wine pub and brewery acoustic duo
Joe Jaber & The Last Divide - Ryan Adams with Joe Cocker's backup vocalists
Scott Morgan - 60's blue eyed soul with a killer backup band

And then a tall bass player had presented to me an offer I couldn't quite refuse... funny how the universe works that way.... hmmm

Anywho... the idea was to have Gerald (with whom I'd already performed with at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall as a Backup Vocalist for The Don Was Review) doin what Gerald does on guitar...
Jamie (with whom I toured with The Sights to the SXSW music fest AND introduced me to the much beloved board game, Ticket To Ride) doin what Jamie does on drums...
and John "Bissa" ( with whom I had joined as a backup vocal with his band Six and The Seven's for the DETXDET music fest) doin what Bissa does on bass...
Oh yah, and I would be the lead vocalist ... One of the first things I remember asking Bissa was if the other 2 had already agreed to this idea...WHOA.

Fast forward to the year 2017...

Starting a new band is always kinda weird. Getting to know personalities, writing styles, ..just all of it. And then it kinda works or kinda doesn't and you either push on till you find what works better or you don't... and on top of all that band blending stuff ...I'm going through chemo ... and we're figuring out a band name....and surgeries... and trying to schedule band practice..and....bizarre to say the least, but this band kept on chugging.. and then things were working ..well ... very well.

So we booked a gig. A big one. This Saturday! The Hamtramck Music Fest!

I am so freaking excited to front this band at one of my fav metro Detroit music festivals... (It's actually going on right now as I type this)..... and I'm not sure you'll make it to our premier performance, but we're sure to book more in the future.

So... take on another project, spend my weekend watching 162 bands at 21 venues in 3 nights and sleeping in on Sunday just to wake up to another Chrissy Hurricane..Sure!

Well it's been a bit since we've chatted, so please, tell me what you're up to.

Movin on up,
Chrissy Morgan

next, check out www.ChrissyMorgan.com

** Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------
You're hearing it here first folks. A Chrissy Morgan original...I'm coining the term now. It's called... "
Senior Rock" and it's broadcasting to your airwaves whether you like it or not.
A couple of years ago I took a Coursera class online called "History of Rock" to brush up on some trivia. It was at this time that I realized that those who were there at the birth of rock & roll are now in their golden years. Some would say it began with the death of David Bowie in 2016 who was 22 in 1969. From there it has seemed as if our beloved rock idols were just dropping like flies, but when you think about it, those in there 20's in the 1960's are now in there late 70's! (Sharon Jones pictured below.)

I would say that one of the first to make it big in the Senior Rock category is Johnny Cash with his last album, American IV: The Man Comes Around. This marked a big change in the music industry. It seemed unlikely that a frail voice, a hard lived life, and the body of ...well a senior citizen could still make music, but that was certain to change. The album that was released in 2002 and went platinum in 2003. Ears were opened and since then, industry standards have changed. Some of my favs to make it in the Senior Rock category include Loretta Lynn's, Van Lear Rose, Leonord Cohen's, You Want It Darker, Mavis Staples', If All I Was Was Black, the recently released Sharon Jones', Soul Of A Woman, and of course David Bowie's, Blackstar. (Leonard Cohen pictured below.)

Senior Rock has to be some of the most inspirational music there is out on the market right now. It's an art form that tells it's listeners, "I'm not dead yet, and NEITHER are YOU!" It's a style of music in which the words themselves matter. The listener is inclined to take heed of what their elders have learned. Yes, there is a darkness that looms within their songs that tends to stick with ya as each vocalist in the senior rock category pleads with you to take their advice. Some of these talented career musicians literally work until there final breath. Yet, up until that point, they continue to promote, they continue to record, and they continue to perform. And let me tell ya, there ain't nothing like watching Leonard Cohen slam to his knees, or seeing Miss Sharon Jones dance across the stage like no other can. (Bettye LaVette pictured below.)

Well this brings me to tomorrow, Friday, December 1st at The Loving Touch in Ferndale, Michigan. Detroit rock and soul front man, Scott Morgan, has his Rough and Ready vinyl release party for an album that I'm proud to say I recorded on every track with. Our paths aligned while working with the Detroit band, The Sights, for a holiday show 3 years ago. Working with a senior rocker does take patience (We've been working on Scott's album since spring of 2015.), but knowing what he's been through to get to this point is just so motivating. He was just 16 when he performed for 13,000 fans and continued his career working with the likes of Bob Seger, Iggy Pop, and members of the MC5. Scott had continued his musical career until more recently when he was diagnosed with terminal liver cirrhosis and a stomach tumor. Did that stop him... nope. In fact his voice sounds better than ever, taking his time to convey his emotions on each recording. He worked closely with Eddie Baranek
(frontman for The Sights, The Scrappers) to write each song with intention and to record with a soulfulness with as much power as he had 5 decades ago.
(Scott Morgan pictured below.)

On April 18th of this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and on December 5th, I'll be going through a major life changing procedure to ensure the prevention of future diagnoses. Throughout this struggle, music has helped me to keep going. Although I'm half the age of some of these senior rockers, I look to them for encouragement and I'll keep working until I can't. And by no means has this disease stopped my vocal career. The last two weeks alone, I'v recorded for 4 separate projects, booked a recording session for October 2018 for my solo release, and finally finished this newsletter after avoiding it to the very last minute. (Chrissy Morgan pictured below.)

Please tell me how you are. It's been a while. Find your passion and find ways do it everyday!!!

Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------
There is no way that I could have predicted that this year would include back-to-back astral viewings of life changing proportions. Last weekend my hubby and I decided to go on a much needed camping trip to Northern Michigan to watch The Perseid Meteor Shower. We've camped at this location before and were not disappointed by how many stars were visible, so we knew we just had to come back. We counted over 20 meteors flying over our heads with tails as big as the sky itself. After each one flew by we would both be just as amazed as the next. Of course we've all seen shooting stars before, but it always feels like a new experience the moment after one passes by.

And then, not three days later, my awesome brother had offered me to tag along on a road trip to Nashville to see THE solar eclipse. He picked the absolute perfect spot to view it. We were on the Tennesee/ Kentucky border in the middle of nowhere parked along some farmland. My brother had perfectly planned out where we could get the most viewing time of totality and with a full 2 minutes and 40 seconds. We had enough time to fully enjoy all there was to experience and I will never forget it.

As I write this newsletter I'm still taking it all in...

There is also no way that I could have predicted that this year would include a couple of pretty big back-to-back performances of The Chrissy Morgan Trio to close out the summer. Yes I have worked pretty hard to get myself here, but there's just something different about these two. These aren't performances for the dinner crowd or the late night drinkers. These are the kind of gigs that put my name right alongside some of the most talented performers in the Detroit Metro Area. As much as I have worked so far, it still feels like I'm at the very beginnings to the next steps of my professional career.

There is no way that I can predict where the rest of this year is destined to take me. What will I remember 2017 for? As I write this newsletter I'm still taking it all in...

Please tell me how you are. It's been a while. Find your passion and find ways do it everyday!!!

Movin on up,
Chrissy Morgan

As I head towards my "professional career", I find that it's due time to edit my YouTube page. This is the first video I had posted 9 years ago. Not my most flattering, but more importantly, not the video to represent the Chrissy Morgan name for the first time visitor. I'll be slowly retiring videos from the past and posting their farewells and some info about each on my Chrissy Morgan Singer Facebook fan page. In the meantime enjoy the giggles at my expense.

Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------

Some pretty big stuff has been happening is the land of Chrissytopia. Where to begin. Well if you didn't get a chance to check it out, might I recommend the season finale of Comedy Central show, The Detroiters. I'm in it!! That's me sitting in the same shot as Jason Sudeikis and local boys Tim Robinson and Sam Richardson. You can catch me sitting near the stage in a couple of scenes and if ya listen real close during the Al Borland montage, he yells briefly.... "CHRISSY MORGAN". So yes.. I am now famous! Such a fun series to watch. Tons of inside jokes and landmarks you'll just love seeing if you're from the Detroit Metro area. And they're all ready to start taping a second season. Who knows if I'll sign up to be an extra again??

So a handful of years ago I joined an online community to sell personalized singing telegrams on YouTube for $5. I did pretty well while I was there, making videos for loved ones all over the country. Problem was.. while the company is called "Fiverr" I made Fourer. And making videos, no matter how cheap the editing, took a bunch of time. And there were scheduled deadlines that I had no control over. I once had to do a video from my hotel room in New Mexico while on vacation and things got a bit tricky. Nonetheless, I decided to take the idea and run with it. Yes sales are a bit slower with a smaller base to connect to, but I'm able to manage everything the way I like it. Fast forward to me making a birthday greeting video for a fantastic and supportive friend of mine's nephew. She loved the video and happened to show her boss who owns the company Pet Gift Box. He had mentioned wanting me to do a video for the company!! WHAA?!?! I took on the challenge and not only
made a video, but I also came up with an original jingle! Not just that, but my video was shared to over 500K fans!!! Ya can't get better promotion than that.. and I got paid for it!!! So if you have a local business that's interested in a personalized jingle/ video, send them my way!

Next on the list of exciting news is one for the karma account. Musicians, artists, and performers are constantly donating their time to help raise money for events around town. It's part of the job and always feels good to do so. As part of my do-gooder inspired year, I'm taking things a bit further. I'm choppin my hair!! That's right, going straight cue ball to help raise money for St. Baldrick's. The money raised goes to research for children's cancer. First off, I have to say my co backup vocalist, Heather Mac, from Joe Jaber & The Last Divide was a major inspiration to me. She's done this twice and has raised more than $5000. Since this was a last minute decision, I set my goal low at $500. As of 5:01pm Saturday, I'm halfway there!!! So if ya see me next time wearing a hat, wig or scarf, you'll know it was for good reason!! Should you wish to donate your time, money or hair....

https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/930928/2017 (http:// https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/930928/2017)

P.S. I'll be donating my actual hair to https://www.childrenwithhairloss.us/

Please tell me how you are. It's been a while. Find your passion and find ways do it everyday!!!

Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------

My very first solo vocal performance was in 5th grade. I got to wear makeup, a huge hat and a bridesmaid dress, and got my picture taken for the local newspaper. (pic available at www.chrissymorgan.com) I was hooked!!! Although my ride through the rest of my young adult years were awkward and lonely, I made it through with the blessing of choir and theatre. I dedicated every spare moment to learning lines and practicing vocal harmonies. I delved in so deep that before my senior year in my high school, I had performed in 7 musicals, 14 school choir performances, a handful of community school choir performances, 2 competition choir recitals, 2 school comedies and at least 8 solo performances. Senior year I was voted "most musical" and "most theatrical", I got a lead in another comedy, sang a solo for winter choir and spring choir, won a trophy for my solo in competition choir at Virginia Beach, and was voted president of choir club.

And then this...
That's me in the blue dress performing as Charity Barnum in the musical Barnum. The final HURRAH of high school life and I... screwed it up. The song style was a "round". The band started the melody, then halfway through I start the melody again, and then halfway through the choir starts the melody again. The thing is.. I started a measure or two late.... sigh... as I type this, I can re hear the entire song go completely off the tracks and there was no way to catch back up.. for anyone. Yes a simple mistake and I can't imagine others would remember this trainwreck as vividly as I did, but it sure haunts me. I was on such a roll, I felt unstoppable and then the only thing that took me off my tracks... was me!!!
From this moment on, I wasn't so sure about the steps I made. The FEAR made me question. The FEAR made me hesitate. The FEAR made me wonder if my peers lost respect in me.

Now for some people, that FEAR....sometimes a moment, or a bad decision, or a mistake is what throws them off their game. Sometimes years or even decades pass by before they even consider going back to the time before that particular moment. Some never do.

I honestly don't know what gives me the strength or will or motivation to continue except to do just that... continue. In some ways you need to look at the past to really see how far you have gone. Thanks to social media I was tagged in this photo right before the new year. I wish I could tell this terrified girl that it's gonna work out... eventually.

Now my fears are ..well still the same, but different. And then social media reminded me that I had been teaching vocal lessons independently for a year!!! Now 10+ students later... oh how far I've come along. Now I wish I could tell the adult me about 5 years ago that booking gigs and teaching vocal lessons is a financially viable option and way better than job hopping and waitressing, but again..FEAR stood in the way.

So beginning in 2017 I sortof made a promise to myself to take new chances. To say no sometimes. To keep doing what I do, but to do it with intention. To act like I belong... because I do.

And that brings me to this...
Believe me when I say my new nightmares consist of this one time only performance. FEAR will not stop me.. too late now.. the flyer is out and there is work to do!!! (Thanks to Susie Woodman on keys for helping me arrange what I hear in my head and to Tim Tucker on bass for joining us on a benefit gig for our awesome practice last night!!!)

And then to this...
I'll be honest.. I usually nominate myself in the first round of The Detroit Music Awards... cuz self promotion yo! But I decided to let the cards lay this year and to stop the FEAR. (BTW..Thanks to those who nominated.) It all worked out.. and that's exactly what I'm writing about. Knowing that when you fly in a plane it's gonna just float amongst the clouds. When you decide to raise a child it's going to love you. When you take vocal lessons again, you'll be able to find that voice from your 20's. When you make a major career change you'll be able to focus on all of the things you were already doing.

Not always, silly.... but how else will you know otherwise??

Please tell me how you are. It's been a while. Find your passion and find ways do it everyday!!!

Movin on up,
Chrissy Morgan

Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------

Well if we really wanted to boil down how 2016 ended and 2017 began, I would say it would be with the performance of Mariah Carey in New York City on New Year's Eve. It was an event that came and went like so many memes, knock knock jokes, and reality stars, and yet, I truly feel in my musician's soul that this event will be the tipping point for a new wave of music. And we're due. It's no wonder that so many of our favorite rock stars are passing away... they're getting old. We all are. And while some readers out there are negative Nancies (no offense Nancy) who feel that you can't find good music anymore, that everything is overproduced, and that rock and roll is dead, I'd like to prove you wrong!
When I stated earlier that we're due. What I meant was that we're DUE to have active listeners. It's no wonder that Mariah Carey might have been tipsy during her performance, stopped singing, heck stopped lip synching, didn't join in with dance moves, didn't find it necessary to CARE. Infact, she blamed her performance on technical issues... yah.. and Ashlee Simpson had acid reflux, and SIA forgets her lyrics, and Ariana Grande performs without a live band. Yes... I know.. most of you don't care about these pop stars, but let us not forget that The Beatles were a pop band, Michael Jackson and Prince were at the top of the pop charts, etc.etc.etc. Having active involvement in your cultural industry WILL make it better.
When I was younger, I could spend hours listening to my favorite albums. I would actively search the local papers for my favorite bands and go see them live. I would tune into public radio stations and listen to the late night schedule in search for something that wasn't on mainstream radio. I would chat with my friends about what they're listening to. I would go to see my friends' bands and stay to watch the other bands perform. And you know what.. I still do those things! I'v added to that list saving playlists on Spotify when I find new music, searching Youtube for videos of new bands, following NPR's Tiny Desk Concert contest and LIVE from KEXP and so many of the performances from PBS ( Austin City Limits and Live From Lincoln Center). THERE IS SO MUCH AMAZING MUSIC OUT THERE! It is so wonderful finding unbelievable true talent. Great music is out there!!!!
If you want better politicians, vote. If you want more organic foods in your local grocery store, change where you shop. If you want better music in your life, FIND and LISTEN to better music! If you want anything to change, STAY ACTIVE!!!!! Be conscious of every choice you make in your daily lives. Do not allow sub par anything to be present. We deserve better.

Please tell me how you are. It's been a while. Find your passion and find ways do it everyday!!!

Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------
Wow! My 5th Newsletter!! That must mean something. I guess it means I have something to write about. (trying to think of something to write about...) Let's cut to the chase.. after a fearfully slow October, I started hustling my way to have a busy holiday season and I may have overdone it. SO why not add another side gig to the mix just incase I get bored.

PRESENTING: (drum roll)
THE CHRISSY MORGAN SINGOGRAM!!!! (cymbal crash)
(click me!) (http://www.chrissymorgan.com/new-products/)

That's right... You can now request a tune for your loved one, and I will sing it to them. Simply fill out the form for your request, and once approved, pay up! It's that simple! ( or at least I think it is... I haven't had an official order placed yet. ) Some of you may already know that I did this with the company fiverr. It was fun, but I decided to cut out the middleman.. after all $5 really meant $4 and I had a couple requests that were questionable. Even after the holiday season, please consider this unique gift as a way to brighten someone's day, while supporting local music...

Speaking of which, it's that time of year when I like to promote someone other than myself, sortof. There are so many musical artists from Detroit (some of which I'v had the pleasure to work with) and I want you to know about them. We are in a critical time where supporting small businesses and craftsmanship can really help a local community. Please don't forget about your local music community. We are the one's at every one of your favorite events (corporate parties, benefits, weddings, date nights, festivals, beer tastings, etc.).

There's a pretty funny TV show coming to town on Comedy Central called, Detroiters. Of course I'm pretty psyched because it takes place in the city I love, but also because I'v been able to watch some of my ol' actor friends work their way up from local theatre to the big screen. What's more exciting than that?? I got to be an extra for one of the episodes during the series!!! More details as they arrive.... (click the pic to see the preview)

Hello There!!!
------------------------------------------------------------

If you really know me, you know that I'm a prius driving, discounted perennial buyin, tree huggin, peace lovin hippie who needs to camp in the middle of the woods to connect with her true self. There's almost nothing more humbling than a dark cool night amongst the tall trees and a bright open sky. It reminds you that you are never alone in this world and that (for me) true spirituality comes from within. We are all on this "pale blue dot" together. No matter how we choose live our everyday lives or how we choose to destroy them. This is what we got folks. We have each other. We have sunsets and we have scented flowers and we have a bajillion tiny deer ticks and we have those who like to shame bad drivers with pictures on facebook. Amongst all of this craziness... we have heroes. Let me tell you about some.

---1 in 22. One veteran of Twenty-two. That One of 22 is a veteran or active duty soldier who has taken his life....... I perform backup vocals for the band Joe Jaber & The Last Divide and we were offered a gig to perform for Victory Gym in Brownstown, MI for their grand opening. The premise behind this non profit gym is so cool. Free membership for veterans so that they have a healthy and safe outlet for release amongst a family of those who can relate. It's a huge facility and the people there were welcoming and gracious that we were willing to donate our services. I was also also asked to perform the National Anthem before the official ribbon cutting ceremony that day. I've performed the National Anthem for plenty of events around town, but the pressure I had put upon myself this time was intense. There was just something about the "land of the free, home of the brave" part that struck me. I knew that when I performed those lines, it meant something much different to me
than it did to those present. 1 in 22 is such a horrible statistic that has stuck with me. Those who have such courage during battle feel defeated and worthless when they come home. Fast forward to this past summer when the gym had awarded the band with a certificate of appreciation for support of our nation's veterans. I could have never imagined I would be recognized for, what was to us was another gig, but to them was an important acknowledgement of support. You are never alone. This is what we got folks. We have each other.

---"It's a good day". That's what it says on the cover photo for the Facebook page of the late Ortheia Barnes. I really have to thank bluesman, Paul Miles for introducing me to such an amazing talent. We recorded together with The Original Vandellas and Eliza Neals for his "Save Detroit" project. It didn't take me long to realize what a presence Ortheia had that day. She was a queen. And lord... that voice!!! I felt all of her history, her love, and her patience in just a simple melody that she soloed. Paul knew that Ortheia was a true treasure of Detroit and wanted the people know that she still had that voice and that she was still movin. He wrote an album for her to record her voice...one last time. I was grateful to be asked to record backup vocals on this album. As morbid as it all seemed, it was really quite joyous the whole time. I won't forget her tune, "Heaven Bound". Mind you, she was recording lyrics about her upcoming death BEFORE Bowie had. Amy Saari, Maria
Wade, and I were in a tiny cold recording booth doing our ohhs and ahhs, and she kept wanting us to re-record. She wanted us to sing our backups with a sound of peace and joy and NOT in a depressing and sad way. Going to "the light" was to be a joyous event!!!! Fast forward to the 2016 Detroit Music Awards. Her cd, " I Was The One", had won for Outstanding Gospel/ Christian recording!!!! Being that I was on the recording, I was entitled to a trophy. It now proudly sits on my shelf amongst other honors, but hers always reminds me that despite all of the craziness, that "It's A Good Day".

I don't perform for awards, though it feels good. I don't perform for applause, though I like that too. I mostly perform for myself because I like the challenge and I live for the joy that it can bring to others. A break in our day that takes us out of the world of media and out of that rat race called life and into a space of peace and love.

Please tell me how you are. It's been a while. Find your passion and find ways do it everyday!!!

Movin on up,
Chrissy Morgan

The Chrissy Morgan Newsletter Volume :3 (8/4/16)

Hello There!!! ------------------------------------------------------------ Friday, July 22, 2016. That's the date that I hope to remember as my last day as a waitress. I have retired!!! I've mentioned this in a newsletter before almost 10 years ago and tried to pursue other sources of income before hopping back onto the wagon. This time the difference is that I'm focused on doing ONLY what I love and making sure I get paid for it. Singing. Now there's a lot that goes along with that one category (recording, practicing, teaching, writing, promoting, performing, learning, scheduling, etc.) and it is definitely work, but it's work that I enjoy. And the paths do start to open once you set your mind to what that deep passion is. I swear every time I put it out there, it pays off. Sometimes within minutes after responding to an email.  This is all so new to me. It is really hard to stay focused.
